AMERICAN CLASSICAL MAHOGANY ARMOIRE
Circa 1840. Extra fine, large Period American Empire/Classical armoire in the Gothic taste. This double door cabinet is done in the manner of the fine 19th c New York City cabinet maker, "Meeks". This wonderful piece features a bold crown over two large doors with large Gothic arches, flanked by simple full length columns. The legs are nicely proportioned "vase" turnings ending in bun feet. The entire cabinet is made of beautifully figured solid mahogany and spectacular mahogany veneers. Original brass key hole covers, lock and brass molding between the doors. Minor old repairs to the veneer and a shrinkage crack to one side. Original finish, cleaned and French polished. Very fine quality and condition. Completely disassembles for moving. The interior can be customized to fit your needs. 90 1/2" tall x 74" wide (at the crown) 62" wide at the body x 31" deep (at the crown), 25" deep at the body. The interior (usable space) is 69" tall x 59" wide x 20" deep. Price $8,700.
