AMERICAN ROCOCO ROSEWOOD ARMOIRE

Rosewood Rococo Armoire In The Manner Of Meeks. Fresh from a local home , we have purchased this rare, Circa 1845 beauty! All Brazilian rosewood, with all the quality and detail we expect from one of the finest 19thc, New York makers. I strongly believe this piece is by the top notch NYC cabinet maker Meeks. This single door beauty features gorgeous, highly figured wood, fine carving and the rarely seen crenellated moldings that were often used by Meeks in this period and were only in use between 1840-50. The interior is maple with one lower, removable shelf and drawer. The mirror appears to be the original thick plate in amazingly clean, clear condition. The rare original lock is a full door, double throw in brass for which we have two working keys. The entire cabinet comes completely apart for easy moving. The finish is very clean and appears to be original . There are signs that it has been cleaned in the past and there are old restorations to some moldings and carvings. We received a set of shelves that were made for this piece that are also removable, as well as a hanging bar for clothes. There is a paper label under the drawer from a NYC storage company that was torn down in 1921 (fyi). This cabinet is over 170 years old, and still functions and shows beautifully. Anyone familiar with furniture of this age, quality and condition will know what a rare opportunity this piece is especially at this price.  89 1/2" tall x 43 1/2" wide x 24 1/2" deep.  Interior Measurements 38" wide x 17 1/2" deep.  Price $2,800.00.
