ISSAC SCOTT DRESSING CASE

Circa 1880.  Important, American black walnut dressing case, which we strongly believe to be by the 19th c master designer-craftsman, Isaac E. Scott (1845-1920).  Scott gained fame for his work as seen in  the John J. Glessner house in Chicago.  His furniture was also on display in the Chicago Exposition of 1893.  This chest is a fine example of his late Victorian "eclectic medievalism", which was influenced by the work of the English designers Charles Eastlake and Christopher Dresser, which incorporate their "five principals of design".  Solid Walnut, inset with signed "Minton China Works, Stoke On Trent" tiles and brown marble. The key holes, locks and castors are all original, we believe the drop pulls are old replacements.  Very fine original finish and original flat mirror.  The dressing case is 54 3/4" wide x 23" deep x 85 1/4" tall.  Price $4,500.00
