FEDERAL GILDED MIRROR

Fresh from an elegant Sutton Place residence, is this extremely fine, all original, circa 1820 Federal Period gilded over mantel mirror.  Featuring elegant proportions and fine Classical detail, this almost 200 year old antique mirror retains its original early 19th century gold leaf, with only extremely minor flakes to the gilded surface.  The center of the tri-panel upper portion is reverse painted glass, eglomise, depicting a cottage by the sea with a sailing ship.  The center frieze is flanked on either side by unusual and charming trellis painted panels.  The clustered columns are topped by capitals with elongated paterae decoration.  The base of the frame is decorated with fine egg and dart molding.  The painting is in good condition and the original plate glass is in good antique condition with some expected losses to the silver.  It measures 50¼" X 26 ¼" 4 ¼”.  Price $1500.
