EGYPTIAN REVIVAL PARLOR SET
Circa 1875. Unusual, American Aesthetic Movement, Egyptian Revival three piece parlor set. This fine walnut parlor set features fine, high-style carvings of a Pharaoh on a flower carved base, in side view, flanking the top cushion on all three pieces. What I think makes this set more interesting than others of this period is the follow through of the Egyptian motifs on the legs and arms instead of typical Victorian carvings on the legs and arms. The chairs have snake carved, handle-like supports on the back which may have been added some time in the past as support for the chair backs. The upholstery is about ten years old and is a high quality Italian cotton with handsome button tufting, all in good condition. Original finish in good condition. The sofa is on original casters. Sofa 64" long x 28 1/2" deep x 40" tall, chairs 21" wide x 24" deep x 34" tall. Price $6,500 for the set.
