EBONIZED GAME TABLE

FORMAL ELEGANT DESK / GAMES TABLE IN A FRENCH TASTE. Circa 1920, ebonized and gilded mahogany, this table features two inlaid game boards, the interior surface being a backgammon playing field, and a center, removable section that is a chess/checkers board. The center section when reversed has an inlaid leather top that matches the two stationary sections of the table top. Each narrow side of the desk has a small drawer with brass hardware for storage. The legs are gracefully tapered and fluted with gilding, and end in original, fine solid brass casters. The table top has round corners and a turned wood detail below the apron. The ebonized finish has some rough spots and there is some loss to the gilding, all to be expected from a piece of this age. All around good antique condition with no losses to the wood or leather. This fine piece is both useful and decorative, a real find. 37 1/2" wide x 21 1/2" deep x 30" tall.   Price $1,200.
