ENGLISH FLORAL PAINTED CENTER TABLE
ENGLISH ANTIQUE FLORAL PAINTED CENTER TABLE IN THE ITALIAN RENAISSANCE SYLE. Circa 1870, probably made for one of the many Exhibitions of the time to show off a maker's finest and most costly work. This extraordinary table features a beautifully painted round top, fitted with two actual drawers and three faux drawers, each with a delicate cast brass knob and an ivory painted frieze which echoes the actual inlay on the base. The ebonized base has three legs, radiating from the center column. The base of the column has a ring of bone and each flat section is inlaid in a beautiful Renaissance pattern also in bone. This table is fresh from a Pound Ridge NY home and we have pictured it in exactly "as found" condition which is very fine indeed. There is an old, fine, professional repair on the underside of the base, which was done to stabilize the table and does not show anywhere else, and a very small chip on the top painted surface (smaller than a dime) which could be easily touched up if desired. This important piece of 19th century English furniture is signed on the base but I have not been able to decipher the impression which we have pictured. If anyone can identify the maker I would be grateful. 22 " diameter x 28 1/2" tall. Price $2,800.
