VICTORIAN FOLK ART WORK STAND

Circa 1875.  Unusual Victorian Folk Art work stand. I have never seen another quite like this, the top and side panels are a Folk Art style parquetry, in a star-burst pattern. On two of the five panels there is a center of mother of pearl. There is a very elaborate knob and drawer pull in the Renaissance Revival style.  The base is two turned columns connected by a pierced carved stretcher. The legs and top brackets are mirror images of each other. The original fabric interior is all there but in poor condition and could easily be relined if desired. The whole piece is walnut with some burl and lighter woods as part of the parquetry decorations. The walnut of the base is darker than the top cabinet and the original finish is nicely worn to a fine patina. There is one drawer. The parquetry panel in the lid has one long shrinkage crack. Re-glued and lightly polished.   34" tall x 22" wide x 16" deep.  Price $1,200.
